Monday night, I asked if the Pittsburgh Steeler who returned the trophies his sons got just for participating in little league football would return the certificates I gave my little league basketball players years ago.
I recognized each of them for a particular skill or ability they showed.
Bryan writes, "No, he would send the YMCA participation trophy back. The certificate is something they were the best at."
Betty in Anadarko says, "Did you see the size of the trophies he returned? They were probably larger than the ones you gave to best offensive and defensive player."
David writes from Blanchard, "As long as the kids participated and did their best I don't see anything wrong with giving them a trophy for their hard work."
Buddy says, "You want children to work for something and earn it not just give them something they didn't earn."
Sara in Hinton said, "When I coached soccer I did give awards to my team and I'd do it again. They came to every practice did their very best."
Russell from Norman says, "We used to get ice cream after the games. To this day, I'd prefer that to a trophy or medal."
Finally, Ann shares this good thought, "Prepare your kids for the road, don't prepare the road for them. That's my motto. Life is tough."
