A man was arrested after Canadian County Sheriff’s deputies found drugs, cash and weapons at his home during an investigation into a shots fired report.

According to the Sheriff’s office, just after 12 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to the report of shots fired at a home near Gregory and State Highway 66. The caller told deputies that he had gone to a neighbor’s house to catch a ride to the doctor, and was ran off the property by gunfire.

Deputies arrived on scene and spoke with 22-year-old Zachary A. Given at the home. Deputies said they were overwhelmed by the odor of marijuana emanating through the front doorway where they encountered him.

Considering the nature of the call, and concerned for their personal safety, deputies performed a quick sweep of the home to insure no others were present.

Investigators spoke with the caller and Given, and came to the conclusion the two knew each other from the drug deals they’d made with each other.  Although the caller’s initial reports to the dispatcher were that Given was shooting “at him,” he later changed his story telling investigators that Given was actually shooting into the ground behind him as he ran from the home.

Investigators obtained a search warrant for the home.  Once inside, they located and seized about two pounds of high grade marijuana believed to have been purchased from one of the legalized Cannabis Shops in Colorado.  The marijuana was broken down into numerous smaller amounts for distribution believed to have a street value in the neighborhood of $20,000.

Investigators also located and seized almost 450 Alprazolam tablets (the generic form of Xanax), an anti-anxiety medication and schedule IV drug.  The Xanax was packaged for distribution in baggies of ten each.  Investigators also recovered about 50 doses of Oxycodone (a scheduled II drug), known as “Oxycontin”  packaged ten to a bag, and about 30 doses of Buprenorphine, a synthetic opiate and schedule II drug designed to curb opiate addiction.

In addition, investigators found an electric money counter, three handguns, two shotguns, two assault rifles, two bolt action and one lever action rifles.  They also confiscated $4,293 in cash that was located in a locked safe along with all the drugs and guns.

Given was arrested at his home and transported to the Canadian County Jail, where he was booked for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, possession of oxycodone with intent to distribute, possession of alprazolam with intent to distribute, possession of buprenorphine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in the commission of a felony, knowingly concealing proceeds derived from drug transactions, and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He’s being held on $55, 000 bond.

The Sheriff’s office said the investigation into the shooting is on-going.
