The Oklahoma City Dodgers continued their recent clutch hitting, scoring four runs with two outs, and received another strong effort from the pitching staff in a 5-2 win over the New Orleans Zephyrs Wednesday night at Zephyr Field.

Following a five-game losing streak, the Dodgers (70-47) have now won three straight. Wednesday’s win was the team’s 70th of the season, becoming the fastest OKC team to reach that mark during the PCL era. The 2004 squad had previously been the fastest, notching 70 wins in 120 games.

The Dodgers took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning. With the bases loaded and two out, New Orleans pitcher Travis Blackley unleashed a wild pitch, allowing Ronny Torreyes to score.

The Zephyrs (51-67) were able to get on the board for the first time in the series with two runs in the bottom of the second inning. Jhonatan Solano tied the game with a RBI groundout, and Isaac Galloway gave the Zephyrs the lead with a two-out RBI single.

OKC pulled off another two-out rally in the fourth inning to regain the lead. With the bases empty, Darwin Barney singled, and O’Koyea Dickson followed with a game-tying RBI double. Pitcher Trevor Cahill then sent a broken-bat flare into shallow center field for a RBI single to put the Dodgers in front, 3-2.

The Dodgers added a run in the seventh inning when Darnell Sweeney scored during a double play, making it 4-2.

Corey Seager gave the Dodgers some more breathing room in the top of the ninth inning when he notched a two-out RBI single, pushing the lead to 5-2.

After the Zephyrs scored twice in the second inning, the Dodgers pitching staff held New Orleans scoreless with three hits over the final seven innings. The Zephyrs only had two runners reach scoring position, with only one advancing to third base.

Over the first two games of the series, the Dodgers have allowed only two runs and have kept the Zephyrs scoreless in 17 of 18 innings.

Making his sixth start with the OKC Dodgers, Cahill (1-3) picked up his first win, allowing two runs and three hits over five innings. He worked around four walks and recorded two strikeouts.

Ian Thomas followed Cahill with a pair of scoreless frames. Adam Liberatore worked the eighth, and Juan Gonzalez closed out the game in the ninth to earn his seventh save.

Blackley (4-6) was handed the loss after allowing three runs and seven hits over five innings. The lefty walked one a had a season-high five strikeouts.
