My 2 Cents: POW/MIA Flag Should Come Down?

There is more outrage being expressed that a flag, being flown prominently in the U.S., is racist.

There is more outrage being expressed that a flag, being flown prominently in the U.S., is racist. But it's not the flag you might be thinking of.

It's not the Confederate flag.

This time it's the POW/MIA flag that is under fire.

A columnist for Newsweek says this flag, most of us are familiar with and recognize instantly as a tribute to those who've suffered or vanished in service to this country, is actually a deception and should come down. He says it was created in the Nixon era to disguise the reality of what really happened in Vietnam.

In essence, he argues that it's racist because it implies that Americans were the main victims of that war, and that it detracts from America's own war crimes against the people of North Vietnam.

Do you see that in this flag?

We weren't targeting Asians, we were fighting Communism alongside the South Vietnamese. And besides that, the flag doesn't say anything about Vietnam. It flies today, 40 years after Vietnam, as a symbol of remembrance of our prisoners of war and missing in action fought from all our conflicts across the generations.

Don't dishonor a flag that means so much too so many families and veterans.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
