OKLAHOMA CITY -

Stores across the state have their shelves stocked as tax free weekend begins on Friday.

The Oklahoma Tax Commission said shoppers will save more than $7.3 million in taxes during the long weekend. This event starts Friday morning and ends at midnight Sunday.

School supplies are not tax free, but many stores are dropping prices on those items. Shoes and clothing under $100 are exempt from state, city, county and local sales taxes. This does not apply to the sale of any accessories, special clothing or sporting footwear.

Several metro malls have special tax-free weekend hours. Quail Springs Mall and Sooner Mall in Norman are open from 10 a.m. until 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday.

The same hours apply at Penn Square Mall, but it will open at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The tax free weekend doesn't just apply to in-store purchases. You can also cash in on the savings by mail, telephone, email or online.
