More than half a million Oklahomans are caring for an older parent right now. And most say they're overwhelmed.
On Wednesday, there's a special seminar that can teach you ways to cut the financial costs and help lower your stress.
A new report finds many Oklahomans spend hours caring for an older parent. So now AARP will offer a free web seminar to teach caregivers how to cut costs and learn about new rights and support in the sooner state.
Oklahoma is the first state in the nation to pass the Care Act, which helps caregivers improve their family member's health, reduce costly hospital re-admissions, and helps Oklahomans live independently in their own homes.
The Care Act also means patients can designate a caregiver when they're in the hospital, and the hospital has to work closely with that caregiver when the patient is released.
There's a lot of information that can help you and that information is all free. News 9 has partnered with AARP to offer the webinar at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Register now at www.News9.com/care.
You can also text the word ‘CARE’ to 79640 for caregiving information at your fingertips. This will provide you with a quick link to the site with tools, information and other resources for caregiving.
