Fire Destroys Apartment Building Near Quail Springs Mall

Posted: Updated:
OKLAHOMA CITY -

Crews were able to get a handle on a fire at an apartment complex on the northwest side of the metro, Monday afternoon.

Firefighters were called out to battle the blaze at the Quail Springs condominiums complex located in the 14000 block of N. Penn. Ave., just to the northeast of Quail Springs Mall, around 4 p.m.

It is unclear how the fire was started, but it was able to spread quickly and had enveloped a large portion of one apartment building by the time firefighters arrived on scene. News 9 is told everyone in the building managed to escape safely.

Authorities have narrowed Penn. Ave. down to one lane in both directions while crews fight the fire. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area.

As of 4:30 p.m. fire crews had the fire under control and were in the process of dousing hot spots. A preliminary damage estimate has not been released, but the building appears to be a total loss.
