A man accused of hitting a Lincoln County deputy with a vehicle today enters his 13th hour on the run, but investigators know who he is.

Danny Joe Hopkins, Jr. has been in trouble before and has a domestic abuse warrant for his arrest. Now, he is on the run after running over a deputy.

“It started with a 911 call,” Lincoln County Sheriff Charlie Dougherty said. “The individual called and said there was an individual parked on a county bridge just sitting there. There was a guy inside the vehicle slumped over the wheel.”

Deputy Allen Brown showed up.

“When he got on scene he knocked on the glass,” Dougherty said. “The guy woke up.”

The deputy asked him to get out of the vehicle.

“When he did, he had what appeared to be a bag of dope in his hand that he threw off the bridge into the water,” Dougherty said.

And that's when a wild chain of events played out into the night.

“Got one handcuff on him, and at that time, a fight broke loose,” Dougherty said.

The driver tries to get back inside his truck.

“So, as he’s trying to get in the deputy is trying to pull him back out,” Dougherty said.

Hopkins hits the gas and runs over the deputy's arm, dragging him along the road.

Then another 911 call was made.

“Hey, we got an officer down out here on that bridge,” the caller said.

Meanwhile, Hopkins took off running into the trees. Oklahoma Highway Patrol searched overhead by chopper, and armed deputies covered the ground - a full-fledged manhunt .

“He’s a wanted individual. We’ve just got to get him arrested,” Dougherty said. “He needs to be in jail.”

The deputy has been treated and released from a hospital, and the search continues.
