A Del City adult daycare center says the city has illegally impeded its ability to grow.

The city manager says there’s more to it than that.

Dynasty Care Services opened in the Del Crest Shopping Center three years ago.

They serve a little more than 50 special needs adults, and co-owner Stephanie Price said there is a waiting list.

Price said last fall, the City gave them permission to expand into 2,500 square feet of office space right next door.

However, the Del City planning and zoning commission pulled the plug on their plans in January.

The City did so knowing Dynasty had already spent $15,000 on new furniture and other moving expenses, Price said.

On Tuesday, City Manager Mark Edwards said the city stopped Dynasty’s plans because they leased out their office space last year for a party where alcohol was served. That was a violation of their special-use lease.

“We paid those fines, we were on probation, and we did a lot of things in the community after hours. The police are always trolling this facility. We’ve never had any complaints,” Price said.

Price said what the city did makes no sense, considering Del Crest Shopping Center is at about half its capacity — if that.

“We are a growing facility and our clients need our services,” she said. “We have the same accreditations you would see in your local hospitals.”
