People across the country opened their hearts after the story of an elderly Oklahoman and her broken wheelchair went viral.
Earlier this month, News 9 reported how Oklahoma City police officers helped a 75-year-old woman whose wheelchair broke down.
On July 11, Carol Richardson got stuck on her motorized wheelchair on W Reno Avenue after trying to ride to a Walmart to buy herself a birthday cake.
People calling 911 described the elderly woman as crying.
Police officers Travis Vernier and Amy Hanson gave Richardson a ride home and bought her a birthday cheesecake, her favorite. The story went viral on social media.
“We’re so happy that people took the time to write her cards and send her gifts,” Vernier said.
On Tuesday, the officers visited with Richardson again and gave her all the gifts and cards people had collected from Oklahoma and across the country.
She received what looked like about 100 cards from people as far away as Vermont and New York.
Kids from a summer camp program in Oklahoma City also sent Carol their drawings.
“I thank God that people love me enough to send this (the gifts) to me,” Richardson said. “I love them (Vernier and Hanson). They’ll be my friends for life."
