Authorities Investigate Inmate's Death At Oklahoma Co. Detention Center

An inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, according to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office.

An inmate died after being found unresponsive in his cell at the Oklahoma County Detention Center, according to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office.

According to the Sheriff’s office, on Thursday, July 23, 66-year-old Charles Land was found unresponsive in his cell at the Oklahoma County Detention Center. Around 9 p.m. Land’s cellmate contacted Detention Officers and informed them Land was not breathing.

Officers immediate began C.P.R. EMSA arrived and transported Land to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at St. Anthony Hospital.

Land was booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on July 20 under an Oklahoma County warrant for failure to appear related to charges on a DUI/Transporting Open Container case.

The cause of death will be determined by the Oklahoma State Medical Examiner’s Office.

It is the policy of the Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office to have the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigations conduct an independent review of deaths at the jail. OSBI is currently investigating Land’s death.
