Moore Teen To Compete In Nationwide Baseball Tournament

A 13-year-old Moore baseball player has big dreams of making it to the majors. But before he gets there he'll be competing in a nationwide tournament next month.

Brandon Beaver will be one of two kids representing Oklahoma in the All-American Game played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. He's made the team, now he needs help getting there.

At 13-years-old Beaver's fastball averages 76 miles an hour. Most major league pitchers average between 90 and 100.

“Usually when I am pitching, kids don't hit off me,” said Beaver.

Standing at 6 feet tall his height and skills are often questioned by parents of the opposing team.

“We've had to pull out the birth certificate more than once,” said Kirsten Jameson, a family friend.

Jameson likes to call herself Beaver’s adopted baseball mom. She's sat in the stands watching her son and Beaver play together since they were nine.

“He was kinda like a Great Dane puppy. And he kinda like didn't really realize how big he was,” said Jameson.

Or the amount of natural talent he was given.

“It's just fun and gives me something to do and I am really good at it,” said Beaver.

Five hundred kids tried out to qualify for the USSSA Midwest Region's All Start team. Beaver was one of the 15 kids to make it.

Throwing smoke over the plate on Friday, Beaver knows each pitch gets him closer to his lifelong dream.

“I'm going to get far with baseball. Make it to the bigs,” he said. 

“He eats, sleeps, and plays baseball. Everything he does is to strive to get there,” said Jameson.

But before he throws out his first professional pitch, it's playing at the All-American Game that keeps him throwing in the strike zone.
