There are new details surrounding an Edmond Memorial High School band director who is accused of having sex with a student. The director is also a National Guardsman and is now charged with a sex crime.

Cameron Kedy’s last day as band director was May 26 when he resigned.

The first inkling officials had that there could be something inappropriate going on was back on May 15 when an adult walked into the Edmond Memorial High School and asked to talk to a principal.

"And began asking some hypothetical questions about what would happen if a teacher and a student had an inappropriate relationship,” Edmond Public Schools Spokeswoman, Susan Parks-Schlepp, said.

The following Monday, the school got a call from police saying the band director may be involved with a student.

Court documents state 27-year-old Cameron Kedy solicited a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student. The girl's parents say they "found out that their daughter had been receiving inappropriate texting" from Kedy and that she admitted "having a sexual relationship" with the band director.

At first, Kedy denied he knew the girl. Police said his story slowly changed, but he never admitted to having sex with the girl.

"He maintained that there was no sexual activity that occurred,” said Edmond police Sgt. James Hamm.

Investigators believe otherwise. They say the two communicated using an app called "KIK". The girl told police she had sex with Kedy "way less than 20 times."

Kedy serves in the Army National Guard and was named a "Champion of Character" by the Character Council of Edmond for being punctual and "showing esteem for others by doing the right thing at the right time."

Now, police hope he will be punctual and do the right thing by turning himself in.

"If these allegations prove true, Cameron Kedy violated the trust of students, of parents, everybody involved with that band program, the district and the community,” Parks-Schlepp said.

As of Wednesday, Kedy is out of state with a band that is not affiliated with the school. Police said if he doesn't turn himself in, the US Marshal Service will pick him up and bring him back to Oklahoma.
