Oklahoma City firefighters were busy overnight putting out several house fires across the metro.

Monday night, fire officials said they responded to a series of lightning strikes. In one incident, just before 10 p.m.,  officials said lightning struck a tree in the 1200 block of N.W. 183rd, causing a portion of the tree to fall onto a car.

At 2:47 a.m. Tuesday, firefighters responded to a house fire in the 300 block of N.W. 154th Street. Crews reported seeming smoke coming from the roof area of this home.

The fire was extinguished quickly.  Fire officials said lightning struck the roof and caused a small fire in the attic.  After the fire was out, the crews did a great job of trying to prevent further property damage. They left a tarp in place in the house to catch water that was running in from the attic.  They also covered the hole in the roof with plastic before leaving the scene.

Crews estimate the loss to be $18,000 between structure and contents.

At 2:57 a.m. firefighters responded to a house fire in the 11000 block of NW. 136 Ter. Crews reported seeing a single story home’s roof in flames when they arrived.  This was initially a defensive fire due to the amount of flames encountered.  The cause of this fire is not known at this time.

At 5:15 a.m. firefighters responded to another house fire in the 700  block of SE. 12th St.

When firefighters arrived, they reported seeing small wood-frame home with visible flames from the front and side of the home.  Crews were able to control this fire very quickly. OKCFD Fire Investigators were called to the scene.  Investigation as to the cause of fire is still underway.

No injuries to citizens or firefighters in any of these incidents were reported.
