Nine-Run Inning Leads Dodgers Past Express

A nine-run bottom of the seventh inning broke open Saturday’s game for the Oklahoma City Dodgers who went on to an 11-5 win against the Round Rock Express.

A nine-run bottom of the seventh inning broke open Saturday’s game for the Oklahoma City Dodgers who went on to an 11-5 win against the Round Rock Express in front of a sellout crowd of 10,845 at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The nine runs marked the highest run total in a single inning for Oklahoma City this season and most for an Oklahoma City team since May 21, 2013 in Fresno when OKC racked up 10 runs in the eighth inning of a 15-2 win.

Four Dodgers had multi-RBI games Saturday, led by Carl Crawford who drove in three runs. The Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder homered and hit a two-run single in his eighth game with Oklahoma City as he continued his rehab assignment after suffering a torn right oblique April 27.

Scott Schebler and Austin Barnes led Oklahoma City with three hits apiece and also recorded two RBI each.

The Express took a 1-0 lead in the second inning. Brett Nicholas doubled then scored on a RBI single by Michael Choice.

The Dodgers (58-33) took a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning on back-to-back solo home runs.

Crawford hit his first home run with Oklahoma City onto the lawn in right center field to tie the game, 1-1.

Schebler followed with the Dodgers’ second home run of the night that hit the fence on top of the wall in right center field to give Oklahoma City a 2-1 lead.

Crawford and Schebler gave Oklahoma City back-to-back home runs for the first time at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark this season and for the sixth time overall.

The Express (53-39) loaded the bases in the sixth inning for Chris Gimenez who hit a two-run single to center to give Round Rock a 3-2 lead.

The Dodgers broke open the game with nine runs in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Buck Britton reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second, then scored on a RBI single to center by Kyle Jensen to knot the game, 3-3.

With the bases loaded later in the inning, Crawford hit a two-run single to left field to put the Dodgers in front, 5-3. Schebler followed with a RBI single for a 6-3 lead.

Andy Wilkins tacked on another run for Oklahoma City by drawing a bases-loaded walk for a 7-3 advantage. Barnes collected his second double of the inning and drove in two more runs for Oklahoma City. Britton brought home two more runs with a single to left for an 11-3 lead.

In the top of the ninth inning, Round Rock scored two runs on RBI singles by Gimenez and Hanser Alberto.

Dodgers starting pitcher Eric Surkamp allowed three runs and six hits over 6.0 innings. He issued one walk and had five strikeouts. Dodgers reliever Grant Dayton (3-1) got the win in his team debut, pitching a scoreless and hitless seventh inning.

Round Rock reliever Will Lamb (1-1) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs on five hits over one-third of an inning.

Oklahoma City outhit Round Rock, 12-10.

The OKC Dodgers close out their series against Round Rock at 6:05 p.m. Sunday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

Sunday is Faith Night and Christian rock band Hawk Nelson will perform a pregame concert from 4-5 p.m. Tomorrow is also a Chaparral Energy Family Sunday with many family fun activities available, including pregame player autographs, and kids can run the bases after the game.
