A young man held hostage, and then stabbed for no apparent reason, loses his life.

By all accounts, Gabriel Adarme was an innocent victim who died defending his friends.

Edmond Police said it was definitely a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Even the man arrested for the crime supposedly told police he was after someone else.

Unfortunately, none of that lessens the sense of loss Gabriel Adarme's loved ones feel.

"It's going to be really tough to move forward just because everything reminds me of him," said Mariah Kennemer, Adarme's sister.

She and her brother were so close that when she moved from Hawaii to Las Vegas and eventually landed in Oklahoma, he soon followed.

"I don't feel like its real, I feel like it's still walking through a day dream, it’s pretty tough," Kennemer said.

In her moments of clarity, she focuses on the positive -- finding solace in knowing her brother, Gabriel Adarme died saving lives.

"I remind myself he did a really good thing, it's just really tough to deal with because he was such a great person he should not have had to go that way, " she said.

Edmond Police say Adarme was at the Sunset Ridge Apartments on July 10th when suspect, Gabe Wainscott showed up ready to kill.

"He [Wainscott] came in, and he had the big knife, and they asked if they were being held hostage, and he said yes," Jenny Monroe, a spokeswoman for the Edmond Police Department said at that point, Adarme stood up to call police and when he did, Wainscott came at him with a knife.

Wains allegedly stabbed Adarme several times. He later told police Adarme was not the man he planned to kill.

"He said to our officers when being arrested that this is a crime of passion," said Monroe.

Kennemer is proud of her brother's bravery, and said his death is not just a loss for her but for everyone.

"It shows the type of person he really was that he was so caring and put others before himself and he just wanted everybody to be okay," said Kennemer

A memorial service for Adarme is set for tomorrow at Lake Arcadia.

The family plans to then take Adarme home to Hawaii for his burial.
