OKC Police Searching For Suspects In Break-In At Catholic School

Oklahoma City police released surveillance video on Friday of thieves breaking into a catholic school in southwest Oklahoma City.

The crime took place at the Sacred Heart School, near SE 27th and Shartel Ave. The thieves walked over to a back alley between classrooms, broke in through a window and were in and out in less than a minute.

The window has since been fixed, and the teachers and administrators are back to business as usual preparing for the start of school. But the kids at Sacred Heart Elementary School will be learning a hard lesson this year; that sometimes bad people take advantage of churches, schools and kids.

Even though the school has surveillance cameras outside, and a security system with an alarm on the inside, it did not keep the thieves from breaking in.

The surveillance video from the July 10 incident shows two guys slowly walking along the school building, making sure no one was around.

The police report states they broke into the 5th grade classroom and took a Dell computer, a monitor, and a stereo too. The end of the video shows one of the thieves carrying that computer terminal casually down the alley as he made his way towards their getaway car.

Nothing else was taken during this break in. But now those students are out those items for the start of the new school year which starts in less than a month. The principal did not want to go on camera but says the incident was so minor that they did not even file an insurance claim since their deductible is higher than the value of the stolen items.

And the principal tells News 9 that in the 13 years that she has been here, this is the first time they've ever had a break in.
