What began several months ago as a weird-looking stack of shipping containers in downtown Oklahoma City, has finally opened as a chic new restaurant and bar.

“Anchor Down” opened last Tuesday. It occupies most of the first floor of a project known as “OKSea.”

A large dog park has also opened next door. The project actually began three years as an idea to take up space that sits behind the “Aloft” Hotel.

“Anchor Down’s” menu is built around the basic corn dog, but executive chef Beth Lyon says it is much more than that.

“We’re not just frying up corn dogs here,” she said. “We’re casing our own meats, we’re grinding them, and we’re making some wild sauces to go with it.”

“Anchor Down” will also boast a full bar featuring classic cocktails.  Lyon is part of the same ownership group known as “Hungry Town Concepts.”

They opened the wildly popular “Mule” in the Plaza District about three years ago.

“We’re really looking forward to exploding down here,” she grinned Tuesday afternoon.

Developer Richard McKown said he’s been like a little kid in a candy store setting the table for the “OKSea” project.

“OKsea” is made up of 17 railroad shipping containers. It will also include office space, and probably another restaurant.

McKown plans to open his second Deep Deuce Loft Apartment complex called “Mosaic” just a block away sometime in August.

McKown said the large dog park next door to “Anchor Down” will be a huge benefit to area pet owners.

“All of the dogs in the neighborhood are DNA registered,” he said. “So the people are really good at cleaning up behind their dog, because if your dog leaves a mess, and you don’t clean it up, you can get a fine you know.”

“Anchor Down” co-owner John Harris said Hungry Town Concepts is locked and loaded and ready to go in Deep Deuce.

“All these apartment dwellers down here and the dogs can do their business,” Harris said “Dogs can do their business.  Everybody can just get it done here in downtown Oklahoma City.”
