Prank Leads To Boy Becoming Critically Injured

A fireworks attack leads a Del City teen to jump in front of an oncoming pickup Monday afternoon.

He is badly injured, and police don't have a suspect but are hoping someone saw who did this and will come forward.

“Del City 911. What’s the address of your emergency?”

“A little boy just got hit.”

“He barely can breathe. His leg is broke.”

But that little boy, 13-year-old Maiqualise Hill, was hurt much more than what met the eye of a passerby.

“It did him bad,” his grandmother Romana Russell said. “It really did him pretty bad. It’s real hard to watch him lying there.”

Hill has severe neck injuries and broken bones. Doctors worked on throughout the night.

“It’s going to be sad if he’s not going to be able to be the same young man; energetic, happy go-lucky kid,” Russell said.

Hill along with his brother and a few friends were walking along SE 15 Street in Del City on their way to play basketball when someone drove by and threw a firework at them.

“He was trying to dodge fireworks and stepped off the curb, and a truck accidentally hit him,” Russell said.

The driver of that pickup stopped, but whoever threw the firework did not.

“Think twice about playing jokes and stuff, because he could have died,” Russell said.

The case is under investigation as police try to recover surveillance video that may show whoever is responsible. If you have any information about this incident, call Del City police at 677-2443.
