Checotah Man Sentenced For Running Drug Operation From Prison

A judge sentenced a Checotah man who oversaw a meth drug operation from inside a McAlester prison to 23 years in a federal prison.

A judge sentenced a Checotah man who oversaw a meth drug operation from inside a McAlester prison to 23 years in a federal prison.

Prosecutors say at the time of his 2014 federal indictment, 37-year-old Michael A. Metzker was already in prison for drugs and burglary convictions out of Muskogee County. He pleaded guilty to the charges in the indictment in January 2015.

In a news release, the U.S. Attorney's Office said Metzker's accomplices smuggled cell phones into the prison. They said Metzker used the phones to coordinate meth sales across eastern Oklahoma.

The judge also sentenced Metsker's ten accomplices who also pleaded guilty in January:

  • Michael W. Metzker, 59, Checotah: 120 months in prison.
  • Margaret Casey, 46, Checotah: 78 months in prison.
  • Jackie Dale Brumley, 45, Noble: 168 months in prison.
  • Cornell Tyleiz Harvey, 30, Oklahoma City: 120 months in prison.
  • Sunny Ann Martinek, 39, Norman: 70 months in prison.
  • Derek Park, 32, Checotah: 60 months in prison.
  • Shawna Vanzant, 33, Henryetta: 46 months in prison.
  • Scott Wesley Duncan, 39, Oklahoma City: 46 months in prison.
  • Lacey Renee Park, 31, Checotah: 121 months in prison.

The U.S. Attorney's Office says a number of local, state and federal law enforcement agencies were involved in the investigation.
