While roads were washed out during Thursday night’s storms, one fireworks stand lost a lot of fireworks. Now the cleanup is underway.
It happened near Waterloo and Sooner Road in Edmond.
“We had everybody hunkered down like this pushing against the walls of the tent just as hard as it was pushing us back,” Les Colliver said.
It sounds like a showdown of tug-of-war. Usually fireworks light up the July 4th sky, but Thursday night the storm took the show. For one fireworks stand, it was not pretty.
“Two of the ropes holding it up over there broke from the storm,” Derek Zimmerman said. “It was just so strong and tough that it snapped the two ropes.”
It damaged the tent at the stand and took out a lot of inventory.
“We probably lost the whole entire front end of the fireworks stand which one of the cases costs around five hundred dollars,” Zimmerman said.
But at Colliver's tent, the staff was determined to save their piece of the Fourth of July. They may have had a battle on their hands, but in the end had more willpower.
“I guess it was a matter of wills, because it finally died down, and we came out unscathed,” she said.
And so did their fireworks.
Most of the stands in the area are open for business.
