An Edmond teenager just pulled off something only a small fraction of high school students even come close to doing.
Omar Kahn is 15, and just completed his Freshman year at Deer Creek High School. Last month, Omar took the ACT College Aptitude Exam. Only one-tenth of 1 percent of students who take the ACT earns the top score of 36, and Omar nailed it when he took the test three weeks ago.
Remember, Omar is just a high school freshman. “It was just pure surprise really,” he said from his parents’ home in Edmond Thursday afternoon. “It was a shock for the first couple minutes, and then after that, it was I was just really happy very excited the rest of the night. I couldn’t get to sleep.”
Omar says he hasn’t given much thought about where he wants to attend college. But he says he thinks he may want to be a Doctor, or a professional who works in Science or Math.
His mother Tas Khan is a Special Education teacher at Deer Creek Elementary School. She says her son’s teachers deserve some of the credit. “The teachers are awesome, I put it on them, I don’t do anything, he’s very self-disciplined,” she said.
