Dodgers Fall To Nashville In Rain-Shortened Game

The Nashville Sounds scored three runs in the fourth inning to take the lead before rain moved in and they defeated the Oklahoma City Dodgers, 4-2, in a rain-shortened game Monday at First Tennessee Park.

Rain forced a delay two pitches into the bottom of the fifth inning. After a delay of 1 hour, seven minutes the game was called and the Sounds (35-43) won the series, 3-1, against the league-leading Dodgers (49-27).

The Dodgers took a quick 1-0 lead in the first inning two batters into the game. Darnell Sweeney led off with a double, then Darwin Barney followed with a RBI single. Barney went on to finish the game 3-for-3.

Nashville tied the game, 1-1, in the second inning on a RBI double by Jake Smolinski.

The Dodgers regained the lead, 2-1, in the third inning when a run scored on a double play.

The Sounds then scored three runs in the fourth inning to take a 4-2 lead. A sacrifice fly by Smolinksi tied the game, 2-2, and Nashville took the lead on a RBI single by Andy Parrino. The Sounds went ahead by two runs on a sacrifice fly by Nate Freiman.

Nashville starting pitcher Zach Neal (6-3) earned the win for the Sounds, allowing two runs and seven hits over five innings. He recorded six strikeouts.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Deck McGuire (3-3) was charged with the loss, allowing four runs and six hits, walking two and striking out four over 3.2 innings.

Monday marked the final game of the season between the teams and despite losing the current series, Oklahoma City won the season series, 11-5.
