My 2 Cents: Why Open Trails When Trails Aren't Done?

OK, I've got to do a little follow up tonight on a commentary from last week.

I'm the first person to give Oklahoma City credit when it does something right, and it's done a lot of things right over the last 20 year ... spectacularly right.

Last Thursday, I told you about the long awaited opening of the West River Trail ... an extension of the biking and jogging trail along the Oklahoma River, seven and a half miles to Lake Overholser.

There was a big celebration Saturday at the halfway point at Crystal Lake ... hotdogs and snacks and inflatables for the kiddos.

Well, Saturday morning I rode my bike from the boathouses downtown the seven miles to link up to the new trail.

I'd ridden it a week before and knew they had some small gravel areas to pave over, some areas where sand had washed over the trail to sweep away, and even two curbs that needed to be knocked out ... I figured they'd swarm it and get it ready for the big reveal.

I was wrong.

Despite the grand opening, half the trail was still officially closed. It hadn't been cleaned up. I saw people carrying their bikes through the sand, and heavy equipment was parked on the trail to block it off.

My question is why open it if it's not done?

Wait a couple of weeks if you have to and get it finished.

So far I've been thrilled with the Maps projects, but this unveil was a little disappointing.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
