Man Yanks Rings Off Saleswoman's Hand, Runs Away

Oklahoma City police said they need the public's help identifying a bold robbery suspect.

About 11 a.m. Thursday, police said a black male about 5 feet, 5 inches tall in his 20's walked into the Penn Square Mall and asked a Zales store clerk to see a few rings.

“She took them out of the case. She actually put them on her finger and held her hand out so that he could take a look at the rings,” Oklahoma City police Sgt. Jennifer Wardlow said.

And then police said he grabbed her wrist and yanked the rings right off her finger and made a run for it. Each of the diamond rings were worth $5,700.

“Obviously, the middle of the day there's other people around, busy time at the mall, so a very bold and daring thing to do for him to just take them off of her hand like that and run off,” Wardlow said.

Monday, police asked for help figuring out who he is.

Unfortunately, the surveillance photos of him from a nearby business weren't the best quality. But they could be the best chance police have at solving the case.

“A number of cases end up getting solved because of the photos. Sometimes they're good quality. Sometimes they're not so good. But again, we put them out there regardless, hoping that it will lead to an arrest in a case,” Wardlow told News 9.

Police said there's a good chance there were other witnesses at the mall that day, so they hope those people will contact authorities.
