Broken Arrow Police say a woman has died after being struck by a trash truck.

The incident happened on Commercial at Main Street on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at about 7:45 a.m.

According to police, 83-year-old Barbara Kimbrough was walking northbound across Commercial Street in the crosswalk when an American Waste Control trash truck traveling northbound on Main Street made a left turn and hit her.

Police said paramedics with the Broken Arrow Fire Department took Kimbrough to the hospital where she died at about 2:45 Friday morning.

Police said they're still investigating the accident.

American Waste Control released the following statement about the incident:

"We are heartbroken by the tragic fatality that happened in Broken Arrow yesterday, and our prayers continue to be with the victim's family. Immediately after the accident we launched an internal investigation in order to avoid similar accidents in the future. Our focus is on safety for the people in the community and for our drivers, and nothing will deter us from striving to prevent accidents. Again, we are heartbroken -- every life is valuable to us -- and we ask God for continued strength and healing for the victim's family as well as our community."
