As rain continues to fall throughout the night, people who live in the Granada addition in Shawnee are on alert and taking precautions.

There's a lake in the middle of the community, and there have been concerns about water flowing beyond its banks.

This is the same community that was ordered to evacuate voluntarily last month because of heavy flooding.

Heavy rain continues to fall Wednesday night, and pumps were already in place along Granada Lake in anticipation of a possible damn breach.

All eyes are on this lake.

"I'm concerned for our friends because they are more in the flood zone than we are," said homeowner, Jessica Becker.

Last month, the Granada Lake dam was close to a breach following heavy rains.

"It is a concern of the neighborhood and we're all kind of keeping an eye on it for our neighbors," said Becker.

"We have a commercial grade water pump that will pull about a thousand gallons a minute out of the pond," said resident and Lake Manager Gary Hobbs.

Wednesday, the lake manager for the Granada addition in Shawnee said they're ahead of the game.

"It got close to top, but it didn't overflow, so we're just taking precautions now," said Hobbs.

Pumps are out and pumping water out of the lake to prevent a scene like last month, as flooding brought concerns of an imminent damn breach.

"It's scary," said Becker

People in the area say a permanent fix is needed.

There will be a community meeting on the issue Thursday.
