My 2 Cents: Parents Arrested For Kid Left Outside Playing

I laugh at this movement of so called "Free Range Kids."

We just called them kids back in the day.

During the summer we'd head out the door in the morning, drop back by for lunch, and then play in the neighborhood until we heard mom yell our names for dinner.

But now allowing children to experience the world somewhat on their own is looked at as reckless and even neglectful.

Classic case recently reported in Florida of neighbor interference and bureaucratic nannies sticking their nose in where it doesn't belong.

A mom and dad couldn't get back in time to let their 11 year old in the house, so he played basketball in the yard for 90 minutes, while a nosey neighbor alerted authorities about this poor waif.

Believe it or not, the parents were arrested for negligence when they got home, and the kid and his little brother were put in foster care for a month while authorities tried to sort it out.

The parents say they were arrested because the boy had no access to water or shelter.

For 90 whole minutes?? Drink out of the garden hose for crying out loud!

No doubt the neighbor would have claimed there are cancer causing agents in the rubber used to make the hose.

Folks if we're not careful we're going to raise a generation of kids who can't do anything for themselves and are afraid of their own shadows.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
