OKLAHOMA CITY -

Federal prosecutors rested Monday afternoon in the trial of a 20-year-old Oklahoma man accused of sexual misconduct with children at an orphanage in Kenya.

Matthew Lane Durham pleaded not guilty last week to 17 charges.

The jury was expected to hear testimony from Matthew Durham.

Instead, the courtroom remained locked to the public because children from the orphanage testified about the alleged abuse.

Many of the children involved flew from Kenya to testify in front of the jury.

Only the judge, attorneys, and the jury were allowed in the courtroom to listen to their testimony.

Those children were the last of federal prosecutors' witnesses to testify before resting their case.

News 9 learned Monday not all the children involved in the case came to Oklahoma to testify.

Because of that, the defense asked for several of the charges against Durham to be dropped.

A judge denied that request.

There is still a potential we'll hear from Durham on the witness stand.

The defense will begin making its case Tuesday morning.

It's estimated the jury will begin their deliberations by the end of the week.

If convicted, Durham faces life in prison.
