OKLAHOMA CITY -

Two women attack a detention officer and try to escape from the Oklahoma County Jail.

The sheriff's office says the inmates were ready to get out of the state and head for the boarder.

The two women apparently had plans to flee to Mexico.

The duo was already being held for felony convictions, in fact 28-year-old Kristine Orrantia was arrested for successfully escaping from a prison in Texas.

Four hours before Sunday's attack, 26-year-old Rheea Roque called a woman and told her, "I need to talk to you about some serious **expletive** “I'm about to leave. Get the keys and come get me."

Roque and Orrantia thought this was their big break.

Late that night, Roque was let out of her holding cell along with Orrantia.

While out of the holding cell, but still in a secure area of the jail, the two women told the detention officer they needed new clothes.

The officer got them clothes to change into and went back into the changing area with them.

But the two had other plans.

According to court documents, as the detention officer was bending down to place their clothes on the bench, they attacked.

“They are beating her pretty severely, and also at one point, were able to throw the detention officer onto the ground,” said Oklahoma County Sheriff's office spokesperson, Mark Myers.

The sheriff's office also says Orrantia began hitting the officer in the face and head while Roque pushed her against the wall and held her.

During the attack, the officer was radioing for help.

Orrantia kept telling Roque to get her radio and keys so she couldn't use it.

“It's two versus one, and they were punching her in the face,” said Myers.

Documents say the two criminals managed to take off her duty belt with the keys and radio attached.

Roque took the belt as Orrantia continued to fight the officer.

Orrantia yelled at Roque to use the keys to let them out, but it was too late.

Backup arrived, and both women were arrested.

The detention officer was able to protect herself and signal for help. The sheriff's office says this could have turned out much differently.

Both women are now being held in a more secure area of the jail.
