OKLAHOMA CITY -

Two inmates at the Oklahoma County Jail are facing even more charges after attacking a guard and attempting to escape from the facility over the weekend.

According to the Oklahoma County Sheriff's office, Rheea Roque, 26, and Kristine Orrantia, 28, had plans of fleeing to Mexico. So on Sunday, the two women asked a female detention officer for a change of clothes. The officer obliged, and while in a changing area at the jail both women attacked.

During the assault Roque and Orrantia removed the officer's duty belt, but the officer was able to radio for backup. According to the report, Roque tried to unlock other inmates' cell doors but was unsuccessful. Backup soon arrived and both women were subdued.

"We are fortunate that our employee was not seriously injured from this incident," said Sheriff John Whetsel. "The employee did an incredible job of defending herself from two violent inmates who were set on making an escape. Training kicked in for this employee and she was able to get the help she needed."

Roque was already in jail for a felony conviction out of Custer County and drug possession. Her new charges include Aggravated Assault and Battery on an Officer, Robbery, Attempting to Escape from Jail, and Operating a Radio Capable of Receiving Law Enforcement Transmissions.

Orrantia was being held on a Texas warrant for escaping from jail, and had several other felony convictions on her record. Her new charges included Aggravated Assault and Battery on an Officer, Robbery and Attempting to Escape from Jail.

Both Roque and Orrantia remain in the Oklahoma County Jail.
