My 2 Cents: Lawmaker Wants Parents To Vaccinate Kids Before School

To a lot of us, it seems like a no brainer, but a bill an Oklahoma City State Senator says he will file next session could boil over into an intense debate about government overreach.

Senator Ervin Yen, a cardiac anesthesiologist, wants people to make sure people vaccinate their children before then send them to school.

Yen wants to rewrite the law and eliminate the option of not having your children vaccinated if you have a religious or philosophical reason against it.

Some parents who opt out of the vaccinations believe they're as dangerous as the diseases they're designed to prevent, and some believe they cause autism.

The AMA says that's dangerous thinking and based on bad science, and just today pushed state's to eliminate the vaccine option.

The point is if parents don't vaccinate their children and send them to school they endanger other children, especially those who medically can't be vaccinated... who's immune systems might be compromised by some other disease like cancer.

Yen says he doesn't want to require people to vaccinate their kids, but they will have to if they want to send them to public, private or parochial schools.

I'm for vaccination.

I'm Kelly Ogle and that's My 2 Cents.
