EDMOND, Oklahoma -

Two weeks ago, police in Edmond were forced to shoot and kill a man who wouldn't drop a gun. Earlier Sunday, it was nearly the exact same situation. Police say a man was threatening his girlfriend and then pointed a weapon at officers. That suspect is now in the hospital.

The 7000 block of Sandy Lane is typically peaceful. It's near Sorghum Mill and Midwest Blvd., about a mile and a half east of I-35. But beyond one gate was a big commotion, Sunday around 5 a.m., where a woman living inside her home with her child called 911, saying her boyfriend showed up with a gun and threatened to kill himself.

Edmond Police arrived on scene with their negotiating team. They were able to get the woman and child out of the home safely. But when the boyfriend eventually came out of the house, he started to walk towards police and would not drop the gun.

"He came out of the house with a weapon and pointed it at officers, so our officers gave commands to put down the weapon, but he did not comply with those commands, so an adult male has been shot," said Jennifer Monroe of Edmond Police Department.

It was shocking news for next door neighbor Dave Hunsucker, who could hear the whole thing.

"I actually thought it was her husband because it, he's there all the time and you know they seemed like a nice couple. I talked to her once or twice," Hunsucker said.

Hunsucker says the boyfriend wasn't acting like himself and after repeated attempts by police to get him to drop his weapon, he saw the boyfriend shot down on the front porch with a pistol.

"It was especially close to home and this is a quiet street.,” he said.

The officers involved are on routine administrative leave while the shooting is investigated. The suspect was transported to O.U. Medical Center in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds. His name has not been released.
