According to Oklahoma Highway Patrol's (OHP) Captain Paul Timmons, troopers responded to a fatal crash on Saturday afternoon on westbound Interstate 40 at mile marker 101 near Hinton.

The call came in at 12:52 p.m. OHP said the driver of a Ford Mustang was trying to exit the interstate when it rear-ended a semi that was parked on the shoulder on the road.

Captain Timmons said the 16-year-old Thomas resident driving the Mustang was taken to a hospital in Oklahoma City by medical helicopter. The other person in the car, 43-year-old Jeffrey Gifford, died at the scene. Gifford was from Thomas, Okla.

The man driving the semi, 43-year-old Caili Wen of Arcadia, Calif. was not injured, according to law enforcement. OHP said his semi was legally parked in that location.
