Oklahoma police are crediting two good Samaritans with protecting a police officer who authorities say was attacked by a suspect.

Stillwater police say a motorcycle officer was called out Tuesday to a report of a shirtless, painted man acting unusual in the 4300 block of W. 6th St.

According to a report, 20-year-old Samuel Viol was waving his arms around and tried to push the police officer off of his patrol bike.

Police say the officer unsuccessfully tried to subdue Viol with a stun gun and that a fight broke out between the men. Eventually two drivers stopped and helped control Viol so that he could be handcuffed.

Viol is facing charges of assault and battery of a police officer and public intoxication.
