A police standoff ended in the suspect's arrest at a Best Western motel in Stroud, Oklahoma, early Tuesday morning.

Stroud police are still waiting to get a search warrant to go into the second floor hotel room of the Best Western off the Turner Turnpike in Stroud. That's where 34-year-old Gary Wayne Ward barricaded himself for almost nine hours. He has quite a history with the Lincoln County Sheriff's office.

Around 8:30 p.m. Monday, Stroud police tried to serve Ward with a warrant for assault with a deadly weapon. Authorities received a tip that he was at the motel. When they learned he was armed, guests of the hotel were evacuated. Many of them couldn't seek shelter in their cars, staying outside in cool temperatures while they waited for the situation to resolve.

Despite no one getting hurt, Ward put up a fight until the very end. Eventually, SWAT officers had to kick down the door. They discovered drugs and a gun inside.

Ward was taken into custody on three outstanding warrants and will face additional charges for the incident. He is now being booked in the Lincoln County Jail.
