The Oklahoma City Parks and Recreation Department says record setting rainfall has set back the city's summer mowing schedule.

"It's simply too wet," said Interim Assistant Director of the Parks and Rec. Melinda McMillan. "We can't use our heavy equipment without risking significant damage to our park grounds, equipment or the safety of our grounds workers."

The Parks and Rec. Department is responsible for maintaining more than 5,000 acres of green space withing the OKC limits, including 155 parks as well as select medians and rights of way.

Despite the mowing setback, crews will still be picking up trash, and performing small land maintenance. Clearing storm debris remains priority.

The city expects to mowing schedule delay for another two or three weeks, until the ground dries out.
