Oklahoma City Police are investigating after a man dies while in custody, Wednesday evening.
The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. when officers responded to a disturbance call in the area of NE 23rd and Sooner. Authorities said a man breaking into pickup trucks was apprehended by residents after they witnessed his crimes.
The witnesses were out riding 4-Wheeler's when they saw the suspect. They detained him, tied him up with a tow rope, and held him down until police arrived on scene.
Two officers arrived on scene and took over, placing the suspect in handcuffs. The officers began removing the tow rope from around the suspect when they noticed he wasn't breathing. The officers called EMSA and immediately un-handcuffed the suspect. They continued removing the tow rope so they could perform CPR.
When EMSA arrived, the suspect was taken to a local hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Names of those involved have not been released at this time. This incident is still under investigation.
