People in Purcell brace for another round of severe weather, after flood waters raged through the area over the weekend.

On Monday, several families got to return to their homes since the high water had finally receded. Many of them live near Walnut Creek, which overflowed its banks during this month's record rainfall.

News 9 visited with one family who lived on the south side of town. Every room in their house was coated in red mud mixed with clay, leaving the family wondering where to begin with their cleanup efforts.

Right now they are looking for anything that can be saved. Their daughter came by on Monday to take a look at the damage. She told News 9 she was stunned by the mess.

“I don't know where they are going to start,” said the daughter, who did not want to be identified. “I'm sad for them, and I have a lot of cleaning up to do.”

The family cat survived the flood, but so far they have found only one of the cat's kittens.

The family named that surviving kitten Lucky.
