Dodgers Shut Out 51s for Third Straight Win

Posted: Updated:

Zach Lee tossed 7.0 scoreless innings and the Oklahoma City Dodgers capitalized on an early lead as they shut out the Las Vegas 51s, 2-0, at hitter-friendly Cashman Field Sunday afternoon.

The Dodgers (29-13) won a third straight game to claim their first series win in Las Vegas since 2005. Oklahoma City is now a season-best 16 games above .500, as the Dodgers won three of four games in Las Vegas.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Lee (5-3) allowed four singles, issued one walk and recorded three strikeouts in the win as he tied a season high by going 7.0 innings. He combined with relievers Ramon Troncoso and David Aardsma in the six-hit shutout – the fifth shutout win of the season for Oklahoma City.

Aardsma picked up his league-leading 14th save of 2015 – and his third in as many days – in a matchup between the top teams in each of the PCL's two conferences.

The Dodgers' early scoring success in games continued Sunday as Oklahoma City took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning.

A two-out RBI single from Brian Burgamy on a ground ball to left field scored Elliot Johnson, who got on base earlier in the inning with a single.

The Dodgers improved to 17-2 when scoring first this season.

Oklahoma City added to its lead in the fourth inning on a RBI single by Scott Schebler to go ahead, 2-0. Schebler's ground ball to right field scored Kyle Jensen, who hit his 10th double of the season. Schebler is now 5-for-8 over his last two games with one RBI and two runs scored.

Las Vegas (27-17) has now lost three straight games for the second time in 2015.

Starting pitcher Darin Gorski (3-4) was charged with the loss for the 51s. He allowed two runs and seven hits over 5.0 innings. He issued three walks and struck out two.

Darnell Sweeney tied a personal and team season high with three hits for Oklahoma City, which outhit the 51s, 11-6, in the win.

The Dodgers continue their eight-game road trip and open a four-game series against the Salt Lake Bees at 7:35 p.m. Central time Monday at Smith's Ballpark.
