Flooding Causes Road Closures, Damage Across Oklahoma

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said as of 2:00 p.m., US 271 south of Clayton by Clayton Lake Park is shut down due to a landslide.ODOT has yet to give an estimated time of when the roadway will reopen.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said as of 2:00 p.m. Saturday, US 271 south of Clayton by Clayton Lake Park was shut down due to a landslide. Also, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation has released a list of highways closed due to high water. Around 3:30 p.m. Saturday, OHP said Interstate 40 was closed in both directions due to flooding near the Custer/Washita County line. Mile marker 53 to 55.5 was also shut down because the interstate was covered by water in Washita County. It was re-opened with high water at 4:48 p.m.

Drivers were cautioned to not travel the following highways as of 12:05 p.m. Sunday: 

Atoka County

SH-131 is closed near Wardville

Bryan County

US-70 eastbound is closed eight miles south of Bennington

SH-48 is closed four miles north of Durant

Cherokee County

SH-80 is closed about four miles west of Hulbert between SH-51 and US-62.

Choctaw County

SH-70 is closed east of Boswell at the Muddy Boggy River.

Comanche County

US-62 is closed at Indiahoma Rd.

US-62 and SH-277 is closed near Porter Hill.

SH-7 at Beaver Creek is closed east of Lawton.

I-44 is closed at the 43 mm just north of Lawton

Grant County

SH-11 is closed between US-81 in Medford to SH-132

Jefferson County

SH-32 is closed near Ryan, detour using US-81 or SH-89 to US-70.

Johnston County

US-377/SH-99 is closed to through traffic just south of Tishomingo. Traffic is detoured on SH-1/SH-22 through Ravia and US-177/SH-199.

SH-48A is narrowed to one lane and flagging crews are in place.

Kay County

US-177 is closed north of Blackwell at the Chikaskia River Bridge

US-77 is closed south of Tonkawa at the Salt Fork Bridge.

Kingfisher County

SH-33 is closed three miles west of SH-74F.

US-81 is closed to north and southbound traffic at Kingfisher from Airport Rd. on the north end of Kingfisher to Roberts Rd. south of SH 33.

Kiowa County

SH-54 is closed to through traffic just south of SH-9 near Gotebo. Traffic is detoured using SH-19 to US-183 to SH-55. This closure is expected to last into next week.

US-183 is closed north of Snyder.

Leflore County

US-270 is closed just south of the junction with US-271 between Wister and Heavener due to flooding at Wister Lake. Signs are in place and traffic will be detoured to Poteau and Heavener.

Lincoln County

SH-102 is closed at the SH-66 junction near Wellston

US-62 is closed at SH-102 east of Harrah

McClain County

SH-39 is closed west of Purcell is closed

US-77 is closed at Walnut Creek in Purcell

SH-24 is closed at Washington

Marshall County

SH-199 is closed at the Ft. Washita bridge.

Okmulgee County

SH-16 is closed north and south of Beggs.

Pittsburg County

SH-31 is closed from 270 jct to Haywood and to SH-31A.

SH-63 is closed from Haileyville to Kiowa.

US-270 is closed from west of the Indian Nation Turnpike to Arpealer

US-69B is closed from McAlester north to SH-113

Pottawatomie County

SH-102 is closed between I-40 and Tribbey

US-177 is closed at Hardesty Rd.

Pushmataha County

US-271 is closed south of Clayton, detour available on SH-2 from Antlers to Clayton.

SH-3 is closed between Antlers and Rattan at the Kiamichi River

Tulsa County

SH-20 is closed between SH-11 and Harvard Ave.


At 10:40 p.m. Saturday, authorities in Norman released the following list of closures:

East Norman

INDIAN HILLS RD (EAST) – east of 36th Ave NE, pipe washed out

INDIAN HILLS RD (EAST) – 48th Ave NE, west of intersection pipe washed out, temporary repairs made 5-7-15

ROCK CREEK RD (EAST) – 156th Ave NE to 168th Ave NE, washed out (one lane wood bridge and pipe)

108th AVE NE (EAST) – Indian Hills Rd to Bethel/Stella Rd, pipe washed out, temporary repairs made 5/8/15

120th AVE NE (EAST) – Indian Hills Rd to Franklin Rd, pipe washed out

FRANKLIN RD at LITTLE RIVER – between 24th Ave NE and 36th Ave NE, bridge issues. This bridge has been closed and detour route signed due to safety and function concerns. The consultant who completed the last bridge inspection has been contacted to inspect the bridge and provide recommendations.

48th Ave SE between Alameda St and Washington Elementary School, pipe washed out

Rock Creek Road between 48th Ave NW and 60th Ave NW, Closed due to high water

84th Ave SE between Blue Jay Rd and Lindsey St , Closed due to high water from Lake Thunderbird

Arrowhead Drive /96th Ave NE Closed between Tecumseh Road and Cochise Road, Closed due to high water from Lake Thunderbird

SE 24th Ave/Lindsey south to Imhoff Rd, closed due to high water

900 block of NE 24th Ave, closed due to high water

600 block INDIAN HILLS RD (EAST), closed due to high water

7200 block LINDSEY ST (EAST), closed due to high water

4800-6000 block LINDSEY ST (EAST), closed due to high water

Central Norman

JENKINS/DUFFY, closed due to high water

MAIN/LAHOMA, closed due to high water

UNIVERSITY/DAWS, closed due to high water

400-500 block MAIN ST (WEST), closed due to high water

West Norman

MCGEE DR between Brooks St and Lindsey St, closed due to high water
