The Pottawatomie County Sheriff's Office warned residents Friday about added flooding due to the opening of flood gates at Lake Thunderbird. In a Facebook post, officials said with the current weather situation and large amounts of expect rainfall, Lake Thunderbird will continue to release water and residents can expect a large area of flooding in the county.

"Citizens along Little River will need to remain aware with projected flooding extending a quarter of a mile to a half of a mile past the river's edge in both directions in some areas," the post said.

Sheriff's officials urged residents to have a plan of action for when flooding begins and to avoid driving in flooded areas.
