So far, the story of the Big 12 tournament—besides the early exit of top seed TCU—has been the Oklahoma State pitching staff.
Thursday night, senior Michael Freeman delivered another gem in a season full of them, as the Cowboys dominated Kansas State to the tune of 10-1 at ONEOK Field.
With the win, the Cowboys advanced to Saturday's semifinal matchup. They will await the winner of Oklahoma and Kansas State, who will play at 7 p.m. Friday night.
Freeman went the distance, surrendering six hits while walking two and striking out seven on 124 pitches. He worked with a lead from the very beginning of the game as the Cowboys scored two runs in the top of the first and added three more in the second for a 5-0 lead.
The only inning where Freeman remotely struggled was the fourth, when he gave up three hits, a walk and a run. A double play with the bases loaded prevented the Wildcats from scoring more than one run, and Freeman dominated the KSU hitters for the rest of the game.
Offense wasn't a problem for OSU either, as the Pokes pounded out 14 hits and scored in six of the nine innings. With TCU out of the picture, the Cowboys are sitting pretty for a shot at the Big 12 title.
