Rain, Storms To Return To Oklahoma Over Memorial Day Weekend

Posted: Updated:

We continue to get a break Thursday from the rainfall, but it won't last long.

Rain and storms will return in barrages over the Memorial Day weekend. The first round moves in tonight. Then, expect more off and on rain and storm chances over the holiday weekend. With the ground saturated, flash flooding and river flood will be the greatest threats but severe weather will be possible at times too.

Over five inches will be possible and as we go through the weekend. This will most like likely fall across parts of central and southeast Oklahoma. This will not soak into the ground and be runoff. Flash flood watches are in place for this threat. If you plan to camp or do boating activities this weekend, be very careful and prepare to take action if water rises too quickly.

I would not recommend camping in the south and east part of the state this weekend.

With the flooding threat, it is difficult to say how bad it will be, but I expect it to be dangerous at times. Use the common warnings of not crossing roads covered in flood water and move to higher ground if you live in flood prone areas seeing flooding.

This weekend will be record setting for much of the southeast parts of the state including the Oklahoma City metro for rainfall for the month of May and all time monthly totals!
