Flooding Forces Road Closures Across Parts Of Oklahoma

The heavy rain overnight is causing a messy commute Wednesday morning, especially for folks in Norman dealing with more flooding.

The heavy rain overnight is causing a messy commute Wednesday morning, especially for folks in Norman dealing with more flooding.

There are road closures and construction signs all over side streets in Norman where flooding occurred. But one of them is a major highway.

Crews are working to repair a large hole in a bridge on State Highway 9 over I-35 in Norman. Traffic on the westbound side of SH9 has been shut down while crews work to repair the damage.

Viewer Teresa Kovelda shared a dramatic video of four crew members performing a swift water rescue in Norman just off Main Street near 24th.

Wednesday morning, ODOT is also reminding residents in Kiowa County about road closures there because of flooding issues.

HWY-54 is closed just north of HWY-9 near Gotebo. This closure is expected to last into next week.

Complete road closures update from ODOT as of 10 a.m.,

Pittsburg County

Sh 63 is closed from Haileyville to Kiowa. Sh 31 is closed from jct US 271 to Haywood.

Pushmataha County

Sh 144 is closed 10 miles east of Nashoba extending east to the US 259 jct. in Leflore County.

Carter County

SH-89 is closed 4 miles south of Ringling.

Atoka County

Sh 131 is closed six miles west of US 69.

Johnston County

SH-7 is closed 5 miles east of SH-99, northeast of Tishomingo.

Pottawatomie County

SH-102 is closed near Tecumseh between SH-9 and SH59B at Little River. Detour east/west on SH-9. Or east/west on SH58B

LeFlore County

US-270 is closed just south of the junction with US-271 between Wister and Heavener due to flooding at Wister Lake. Signs are in place and traffic will be detoured to Poteau and Heavener.

McClain County

SH-24/SH-74 junction is closed in Washington.

Cherokee County

SH-80 is closed about 4 miles west of Hulbert between SH-51 and US-62.

Cotton County

SH-5B is closed between SH-5A and US-70.

Johnston County

US-377/SH-99 is closed to through traffic just south of Tishomingo. Traffic is detoured on SH-1/SH-22 through Ravia and US-177/SH-199.

Kiowa County

SH-54 is closed to through traffic just south of SH-9 near Gotebo. Traffic is detoured using SH-19 to US-183 to SH-55. This closure is expected to last into next week.
