Multiple Tornadoes Touch Down Around Oklahoma

Multiple small tornadoes touched down near Purcell, Oklahoma, as severe storms moved through the area Tuesday afternoon. Another large tornado was reported near Grandfield, Oklahoma.

Multiple small tornadoes touched down near Purcell, Oklahoma, as severe storms moved through the area Tuesday afternoon. Another large tornado was reported near Grandfield, Oklahoma. 

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, southwestern McClain County, west central Pottawatomie County, and southeastern Cleveland County were under a Tornado Warning until 3:30 p.m. That storm system produced multiple small tornadoes near Purcell.

A Tornado Warning was in effect for west central Pott. County until 4:30 p.m. Locations impacted include: Shawnee, Tecumseh, and Brooksville. 

Bob Mills SkyNews 9 HD was in the area just southeast of Purcell. At about 3 p.m., Pilot Jim Gardner and News 9 Storm Tracker Val Castor reported seeing the storm system producing multiple small, brief tornadoes. So far, no damage has been reported.

Purcell schools were under a lockdown until the severe weather passed, and residents were asked to take their safety precautions.

Shawnee Public Schools were holding their school buses, but parents could come pick up their children. 

Val Castor reported seeing several small tornadoes just north of Highway 39 about four and half miles just east of Lexington. 

A Tornado Warning was also issued for northwestern Cotton County, south central Comanche County, and southeastern Tillman County until 4:45 p.m. Locations impacted include Grandfield, Chattanooga, Devol, Faxon, and Loveland.  

Just before 4 p.m., a confirmed large and dangerous tornado touched down just west of Grandfield. It's moving east at 15 mph. 

Two more confirmed tornado touchdowns were reported after 9:30 p.m. One of the tornadoes was reported near Ringling, Okla., just to the southwest of Altus. The other tornado was reported five miles to the southwest of Lone Grove, Okla., east of Ardmore.
