Dodgers Fall To Iowa

Posted: Updated:

The Oklahoma City Dodgers' four-game winning streak came to an end in a 3-2 loss to the Iowa Cubs Monday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The I-Cubs broke a 2-2 tie in the seventh inning on a RBI single by Arismendy Alcantara to take the lead and win their first game of the series.

Oklahoma City (26-12) threated in the bottom of the ninth inning in front of a crowd of 4,430.

Pinch hitter O'Koyea Dickson hit a one-out, ground-rule double on a fly ball to right field that bounced into the stands. Brian Burgamy then drew a two-out walk for the Dodgers to put runners at first and second base. Scott Schebler came up to bat next and grounded out to second base to end the game.

Iowa's Matt Szczur went 4-for-4 and Taylor Davis finished the night 3-for-4 with two doubles for the I-Cubs (19-19).

Darnell Sweeney collected two hits to lead the Dodgers and extend his hitting streak to nine games.

Iowa took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Szczur singled with one out for his first hit of the night. He advanced to second on a single by Javy Baez, and took third when Christian Villanueva flied out. With Mike Baxter batting, Szczur stole home as part of a double steal to give the I-Cubs a 1-0 lead.

Baxter then hit a two-out RBI single to bring home Baez for a 2-0 Iowa advantage.

The Dodgers cut Iowa's lead in half in the fifth inning.

Darnell Sweeney singled on a ground ball to shortstop Javy Baez. Baez was charged with a fielding error on the play, allowing Burgamy to score and cut Iowa's lead to 2-1.

Oklahoma City tied the game, 2-2, in the sixth inning when Chris Heisey hit his team-leading eighth home run of the season off the LED board in left field.

Iowa starting pitcher Donn Roach (5-0) held the Dodgers to two runs (one earned) and seven hits over 6.0 innings. He also recorded two strikeouts. Blake Cooper picked up his second save of the season.

Oklahoma City starting pitcher Zach Lee (4-3) was charged with the loss, allowing Iowa's three runs on 11 hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out five in the loss.

The Dodgers own a 2-1 lead in the series against Iowa, which wraps up at 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.
