OKLAHOMA CITY -

Jars of peanut butter are stacking up in a Francis Tuttle classroom. It's part of the “OUTTA the Jar” peanut butter drive the students are hosting. Those jars will be passed out in the upcoming weeks to kids this summer who need it.

This peanut butter drive is unlike most you hear about. Instead of them delivering it to a food bank, these students will hand deliver the peanut butter to children who often go hungry over the Summer.

It's something Angela Roche knows firsthand.

“I can recall you know as a young kid struggling during the summertime,” said Angela Roche.

Both of Angela's parents are disabled veterans. She can remember as a child opening up their refrigerator and finding it empty.

“I recall times when I went to school that teachers send me home with goodies for the weekend or for the Christmas break,” she said.

Now instead of being on the receiving end of the donation, she'll help deliver to other kids who once were like her.

“For someone to just reach out to you and just give you something that you wouldn't just ask for because sometimes pride is in the way,” said Roche.

Close to 400 jars of peanut butter has been collected so far.

The class's only goal: “Let's get as much peanut butter in as we can and then we can help that many kids,” said Roche.

To participate in the drive, drop off an unopened jar of peanut butter (16 oz. is best) to one of the drop off locations listed below. Or, call (405)-717-4915 to request your own collection box.
