MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma -

We're taking a closer look at what seems to be an expanding scheme, people renting houses to grow pot in.

Last month 250 pot plants were found inside an Edmond home, and now Midwest City Police are looking for connections to an almost identical operation back in 2013.

Midwest City Police Chief Brandon Clabes said his detectives saw that big bust in Edmond and immediately red flags were raised.

It's an elaborate indoor grow that has authorities not only in Oklahoma, but in Arkansas and California conducting investigations.

“We too found a sophisticated marijuana grow,” said Clabes.

Midwest City's Special Investigations Unit contacted Edmond investigators when they heard about a marijuana grow house nearly identical to one they busted in July 2013.

“We had received information from the alcohol, tobacco, and firearms task force that they had executed several search warrants in Arkansas,” said Clabes.

And during that search, investigators came across evidence leading them to the 2800 block of North Bella Vista in Midwest City.

The house still sits vacant.

“They had multiple marijuana plants, fertilizer, hydroponic lights, water, all the things that you would expect to find,” said Clabes.

Paperwork found inside the Midwest City home led police to 58-year-old Phung Lam and 32-year-old Tan Nguyen.

Chief Clabes said both eventually turned themselves in to police, and pleaded guilty to all charges.

But, they were never able to locate a third suspect. Investigators believe she left the country.

“We do know if it's occurring here in Midwest City and Edmond, it surely is occurring somewhere else,” said Clabes.

Right now, investigators are busy trying to figure out if the suspects in Midwest City and Edmond are connected.
