Teenager's Scream Stops Owasso Burglary Attempt, Police Say

Owasso Police said a teenager's scream stopped a burglary attempt in her home overnight.

The victim, who lives near 3rd and Elm, told police she began screaming when a man wearing black clothing broke a window and started crawling inside at about 3 a.m. The man ran off and the girl called 911.

Officers said they followed footprints in the dew to a home nearby where they saw a man in black clothing run inside.

Deputy Police Chief Jason Woodruff said officers made contact with Caleb Hall, 22, at the home. They said he had changed clothes and told officers he had been sleeping.

Woodruff said the victim identified Hall and told police he had made previous unwanted sexual advances towards her.

Woodruff said Hall struggled with officers, who used a Taser to get handcuffs on him.

The victim's 13-year-old sister and grandmother were also at home at the time, according to police.

After his arrest, Caleb Hall told News On 6's Dave Davis he didn't know why he was arrested.

"This is ridiculous," he said. "I was pulled out of my home in my boxers. I don't even have my glasses; I am blind pretty much right now.

"I don't know what is going on right now," he said.

The victim told police Hall had previously offered her money for a sexual favor and even cornered her, asking her to take off her shirt.

"He had allegedly made some previous unwanted sexual advances toward this 17-year-old girl, and she had rebuffed him and he had become more aggressive the more that she had rebuffed his advances," Woodruff said.

Owasso Police booked Hall into the Tulsa County jail on complaints of first-degree burglary and resisting arrest. Jail records show he was being held on a $20,500 bond with a court appearance set for May 19.

"We're still in the early stages of investigating this, but it looks like a very serious situation that could have been much worse," said Owasso Deputy Chief of Police Jason Woodruff.
